Portland wedding florist Flowers by Alana has been published SEVEN times in 2020!

With the Covid-19 pandemic slowing down the number weddings this year, there were several months where most of my already booked wedding clients had to postpone their events to a later date. I’m a creative at heart and can not go too long without designing, so I was thrilled to collaborate with other wedding professionals and put on wedding inspired photoshoots, otherwise known as “styled shoots.” Styled shoots are a great opportunity for several reasons: they offer a way for wedding professionals to showcase their talent and build content for their portfolio and social media, they are great for networking and getting to know other wedding vendors, and they can serve as a way to be published by wedding magazines. Portland wedding florist Flowers by Alana was a part of several styled shoots this year and I’m thrilled to share that we were published SEVEN times!!!! Here’s a list of all seven publishings:

  1. The Oregonian: Ready to elope? Tiny Weddings on Wheels let couples get hitched anywhere

The first time we were published this year was in the Portland area newspaper, the Oregonian, who did an online feature of our Wedding on Wheels styled shoot. Wedding on Wheels is an elopement idea for adventurous couples who love to camp and love the outdoors and are looking for an all inclusive elopement package! The Wedding on Wheels customizable package comes with wedding flowers, photography, champagne, cake, and the rental of a teardrop camper trailer, all delivered to your site of choice in the Pacific Northwest! Flowers by Alana is thrilled to partner with Oregon Teardrop Rentals, the owner of the adorable teardrop camper trailers and who initially had the idea for the Wedding on Wheels Elopement packages. The shoot was beautifully captured by talented wedding photographer Crystal Genes Photography, Also featured in the shoot was Anna’s Bridal with a bridal gown by Rita Vinieris, a beautiful wedding cake by NW Confections, and bridal makeup artist Shelby Renee XOXO of Pins + Pines Artistry (who was also our gorgeous bride model with her beau Dylen.) Check out the Oregonian feature here.

2. Tiny House Magazine: Elope with a Teardrop Trailer from Weddings on Wheels

The Wedding on Wheels elopement shoot was also featured online by Tiny House Magazine! Michelle Boyle of Oregon Teardrop Rentals also builds tiny homes and owns a tiny home vacation rental business called My Tiny House Village. We were thrilled when Tiny House Magazine wanted to do an online feature of our elopement styled shoot! Check out the feature here!

Vineyard Chic Wedding in Classic White and Olive Green at Heisen House near Portland, Oregon.

If you look at Flowers by Alana’s wedding gallery and Instagram, its no secret that I love color. I love designing wedding flowers in bright, bold colors and various seasonal wedding palettes. However, classic white weddings will also always have my heart. There’s something so romantic and timeless about all white wedding flowers. When Denver and Zachary choose white and olive green as their wedding colors and hired Flowers by Alana, and I was honored and thrilled to be their wedding florist. And since a white wedding palette never goes out of season or style, it wasn’t difficult to make changes when the couple had to change their wedding date, like so many other couples planning weddings in 2020.

I first met Denver and Zachary at a wedding open house at Heisen House Vineyards in the Spring of 2019, where I was asked to be a part of a wedding vendor team to design one of three staged wedding areas at the vineyard wedding venue. Denver and Zachary loved our staged area and they literally hired our entire team, made up of wedding coordinator Shannon Huffman of Periwinkle Events NW, sign artist Miranda Schweitzer of This Lettered House, wedding cake and dessert baker Michelle Barnes of Tres Belle Desserts, wedding florist extraordinaire Flowers by Alana (c’est moi!), and of course the beautiful winery and vineyard wedding venue Heisen House Vineyards.

Heisen House Vineyards is located in Battle Ground, Washington, about a 40 minute drive from Downtown Portland. Its a beautiful scenic drive out in the country, not far from Battle Ground Lake State Park and near the East Fork Lewis River. I actually grew up not far from the venue, and driving that way brings back fond memories of living in the country surrounded by beautiful, natural scenery. The vineyard wedding venue houses an old historic barn that dates 120 years old, and pristine rows wine grapes grown by the owner and wine-maker Michelle Bloomquist, who hand-crafts delicious, unfiltered, low-sulfite wine. The wedding venue has several areas one could set the stage for a wedding ceremony or reception. Denver and Zachary’s original plan was to be married at the on-site gazebo with chairs for guests arranged in rows on the lawn, but the northwest weather had a different idea. Because of rain, the wedding ceremony location was changed to a white tent, within which the set up came out to be equally as beautiful.

Initially the couple wanted me to install two floral installations on the corners of the gazebo. With the last minute decision to move to inside a tent, I went to work finding a wooden altar structure to rent for the ceremony. One of the many benefits to hiring a professional wedding florist is the numerous connections we have to rent or borrow wedding altars or other supplies last minute. I found a beautiful wooden hexagon wedding arch that set the stage for the wedding ceremony inside the white tent. I designed a large floral altar installation of lush greenery and all white flowers on one section of the hexagon arbor. Flowers used were white hydrangea, roses and garden roses in white and ivory, white spray roses, Italian ruscus, and both silver dollar and seeded eucalyptus. I also lined their wedding aisle with loose white rose petals and added greenery and pops of white flowers to the wooden welcome sign by Timeless Bridal Accessories and around the guest book signing table and dessert table, which contained gorgeous wedding desserts by Tres Belle Desserts.

For Denver’s bridal bouquet, I used white garden roses, creamy ivory vendela roses, and olive greenery. Her bouquet was wrapped in ivory satin ribbon and lace from her mother’s bridal veil. The rest of the bridal party carried bouquets made with white and ivory roses, white dahlias, and both seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus. The olive green bridesmaid dresses were dark olive and looked great against the sage green color of all the greenery. Denver’s bridal gown and all the bridesmaid dresses were from David’s Bridal.

Zachary and the groomsmen wore grey suits and olive green ties from Your Big Day, a wedding menswear shop in Camas, Washington. The men all wore boutonnieres I designed with a large white rose, seeded eucalyptus, and olive greenery. For the couple’s adorable toddler son, I designed a miniature boutonniere with a small spray rose and greenery.

The talented Washington based wedding photographer Ashley Wilson Photography did a stunning job on their wedding photos. The credit for all the photos on this blog post goes to her! An Intimate Mountain Cabin Wedding in the Mount Hood Forest near Portland, Oregon

Forrest Lodge wedding ceremony, mountain cabin wedding, forest wedding, mountain cabin, mount hood wedding, mount hood vacation rental, burgundy wedding

Earlier this fall, I had the pleasure of designing wedding flowers for a sweet couple, Catherine and Jack, for their small, intimate wedding that took place at the Forrest Lodge in Rhododendron, Oregon. The Forrest Lodge is a mountain cabin vacation rental nestled among the old growth trees of the Mount Hood National Forest. It features all wood interior, massive round beveled-glass windows with gorgeous views of the surrounding forest, a hand built stone chimney, a wooden patio with a hot tub and sauna, a huge gourmet kitchen, and enough bedrooms to sleep 12. Props to Catherine and Jack on their great idea to rent a vacation rental cabin for their intimate wedding venue!

The day of the wedding was raining so Catherine and Jack opted for their ceremony to take place inside in the main room of the cabin in front of the hand built stone fireplace and the large windows. The views of the forest and the natural lighting from the windows made for a gorgeous wedding setting. In front of the fireplace, I installed a large floral installation on an A-frame wedding arbor built by the father of the bride. The A-frame arbor matched the dark wood beams of the cabin as well as the A-frame shape of the cabin itself. Above the altar area hung a unique chandelier made of antlers, which vibes perfectly in the forest setting!

Typical to Oregon weather, the rain stopped and graciously allowed the couple and their bridal party to take beautiful photos outside in the forest. Photos were taken by Brianna Swan, who specializes in elopement and intimate wedding photography. Catherine wore a beautiful bridal gown from Blue Sky Bridal, an eco-conscious consignment bridal shop in Portland that offers new, once-worn, and sample bridal gowns for discounted prices. She also wore a pretty amazing veil fit for a fairy tale princess! Jack and his groomsmen wore custom suits from Indochino, a men’s clothing store in Portland.

The bridesmaids each wore a different style bridesmaid dress or romper in burgundy. Personally, I’m a big fan of rompers and think the addition in the wedding party attire was adorable! Hair and Makeup was done by the Portland based Hair and Makeup artist Blush N Bride. The wedding was officiated by Theresa Tuffli of Heart Rock Ceremonies. The small reception after the ceremony was catered by Busy Bee Catering.

The colors of the wedding were white, ivory, soft blush pink, sage green and burgundy. Flowers by Alana designed the bridal party bouquets and boutonnieres, a large floral installation on an A-frame arbor for the ceremony altar, family boutonnieres and corsages, cake flowers, and a few centerpieces for their small, intimate reception following the ceremony. The flowers I used were white hydrangea, Sweet Escimo blush roses, White Ohara garden roses, ivory Vendela roses, white scabiosa, white astilbe, chocolate brown cosmos, burgundy dahlias, eucalyptus in both seeded and silver dollar varieties, and Italian ruscus.

Summer Outdoor Wedding in Pastel Colors at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Oregon

Sunriver Resort, bride and groom, sunriver resort wedding, bend wedding, bend oregon wedding, pastel wedding palette, oregon florist, oregon wedding florist

For many engaged couples, getting married in 2020 meant scaling down their guest count and wedding sizes to fit within certain county guidelines due to Covid-19. Sunriver, Oregon was within one of the Oregon counties allowing larger guest counts this summer, which meant Conner and Monica could have their dream wedding without postponing and Flowers by Alana was honored to travel from Portland to Sunriver to be their wedding florist. Their wedding photos (and all photos on this blog post) were taken by the talented wedding photographer Carsten Tice and their wedding videography was done by Ivy Pacific Northwest. Their wedding was planned and coordinated by The Indigo Bride and their wedding took place at the gorgeous Sunriver Resort wedding venue near Bend, Oregon.

Monica and I connected over ZOOM several weeks before her wedding, and I immediately loved her warm cheerful spirit as she share her dream wedding vision. Her chosen wedding palette was soft pastels and her favorite floral style was elegant and romantic with a ton of lush, Northwest greenery, which was very synchronous to my personal floral design style! For her gorgeous bridal bouquet, I used white hydrangea, garden roses in blush, peach, and ivory, pale blue nigella, seeded eucalyptus, and Italian ruscus greenery. It truly was stunning in soft colors and rich textures in seeds, foliage, and petals!

Her bridesmaids wore floor-length, dusty blue bridesmaid gowns in various styles and strappy white sandals. They carried bridesmaid bouquets I designed with pale blue hydrangea, blush roses and garden roses, creamy Ivory vendela roses, and silver dollar eucalyptus. Monica wore a gorgeous bridal gown from Made with Love Bridal, an Australian based online luxury bridal shop, and her hair and makeup was done by Cassidy Elise. Conner and all the groomsmen wore grey suits from Men’s Warehouse, with Conner in a pale blue bowtie and his groomsmen in pale blue neck ties. I designed their boutonnieres with peach colored ranunculus, pale blue nigella, and seeded eucalyptus.

Monica and Conner were married beneath a large wedding tent draped overhead with gorgeous white stretch fabric, rented by Curated Event Rentals. Their wedding altar was a wooden arbor (made by one of her bridesmaids!) that I draped in white chiffon and designed on site an altar installation in their pastel wedding palette of ivory, blush, pale peach, and soft blue florals. I used hydrangea in pale blue and white, creamy vendela roses, blush and peach garden roses, peach hypericum berries, peach stock flower, seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus, and Italian ruscus greenery.

At the entrance of their wedding aisle were two wine barrel arrangements in similar flowers to the altar installation with pale blue and white hydrangea, Vendela roses, blush garden roses, peach hypericum berries, and seeded eucalyptus and vining Italian ruscus draping over the wine barrels.

At the reception, guest tables were dressed with linens from BBJ Linens and each table held a wooden table number sign, several glass votive candle holders rented from Curated Event Rentals and three different looks for decor. Some of the round tables held votives and a medium sized floral centerpiece I designed with a lot of seeded and silver dollar eucalyptus, hydrangea, Vendela roses, garden roses, stock and hypericum berries. The other round tables were decorated with three different heights of glass hurricanes filled with white pillar candles and surrounded by loose eucalyptus greenery. The rectangular reception tables had long vining Italian ruscus greenery and small, miniature bouquets of matching florals in rented blue glass goblets. The reception area also featured gorgeous bistro lights rented by Illuminate Your Night. Their white two-tiered wedding cake was made by Ida’s Cupcake Cafe with locations in Bend and Redmond. The cake was topped with seeded eucalyptus, peach garden roses and spray roses, and pale blue nigella flowers.

A Jewel-toned Wedding Styled Shoot at Eola Hills Legacy Estates Vineyard in Salem, Oregon

Happy Autumn, flower lovers! I love everything about the fall, especially the color palettes! Admittedly, this outdoor vineyard wedding styled shoot was shot in the middle of summer, but I think you’ll agree that the warm, jewel toned color palette shouts, “it’s fall, y’all!” or at least suggests that autumn is coming!

This shoot featured the talented work of three different Oregon wedding photographers, Emily Skye Photography, Alisha Hale Photography, and Ashley Masters Photography. To not confuse each of their individual photography styles, I’m going to feature each photographer separately in a series of different blog posts. Today, we’ll exclusively feature Emily Skye Photography, so all the photos on this post are Emily Skye’s work. Stay tuned for subsequent blog posts with incredible images from this jewel-toned vineyard wedding styled shoot by the other photographers, Alisha Hale and Ashley Masters. This styled shoot was also captured by Oregon wedding videographer Shane Wall of Valley Trademark. His video will be featured in a separate blog post to come as well!

We set this styled shoot at the gorgeous vineyard wedding venue and winery tasting site Legacy Estate Vineyard (of Eola Hills Winery) in Salem, Oregon. If you like wine tasting, I encourage you to visit their tasting room which is open 1-6pm daily and features delicious Oregon wine from Eola Hills Winery. The spectacular views of lush, rolling hills and pristine rows of grapevines surrounding the vineyard will take your breath away as you sip delicious wine on their large patio or from the other relaxing spots under oak trees around the vineyard. Its an absolutely gorgeous place for an outdoor wedding! They have a sweet little pond with a deck next to a lush green lawn, and several spots just perfect for a wedding ceremony and reception.

The styled shoot was coordinated and styled by the talented Krystle Clear Events, whom I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working alongside many weddings and styled shoots over the past few years. Her attention to detail, warm and friendly demeanor, and creativity make every event (whether its a real wedding or a styled shoot) run smoothly, stress-free, and sure to be styled beautifully. I definitely recommend reaching out to her if you are planning an Oregon wedding or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest! I’ve said it numerous times, but I can’t stress it enough: wedding coordinators are absolutely worth it! They remove so much stress and pressure from the couple, provide invaluable knowledge and wedding tips, help execute a wedding vision into reality, and can often save you money overall.

We chose the color palette of warm jewel tones to mimic the beautiful sunset colors often witnessed at the vineyard. Our palette included orange, burgundy, blue-ish purple, and teal. We also brought in vintage elements to the styled shoot with the rented decor accents. All the colors of our styled shoot palette are beautifully displayed on our rectangle reception tablescape, which we chose to shoot nestled in an oak tree grove surrounded by rows and rows of grapevines. For the Love of Pete Rental company in Salem, Oregon supplied the gold colored vintage compote urns I used for floral centerpieces down the 6-top reception table. They also supplied the teal tinted glass goblets, gold chargers, and napkins and a chiffon runner, both in rich burgundy. A table number card as well as a nametag was beautifully printed by the talented wedding stationery artist Blue Bonsai Printing, who also created gorgeous wedding invites for the styled shoot.

Desserts were provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes in Clackamas, Oregon. If you’ve never had Nothing Bundt Cake, I seriously suggest you get on that, pronto. They work well for everyday treats as well as wedding cakes, because they come in various sized cakes in delicious flavors and are aesthetically beautiful with their simple icing. We used their mini cakes in colors that matched the styled shoot palette in red velvet and lemon.

Our models, Grace and Taylor, were a real life couple who fit the look perfectly of our shoot and were very fun to work with. Our stunning bride model, Grace happens to be International Ms. Oregon 2020! Her makeup was professionally done by the wedding makeup and hair artist, Morgan Nichols. Taylor wore a burgundy suit from The Black Tux and Grace wore a bridal gown from Adorned in Grace Bridal and Formalwear Shop, a bridal shop that sells new and gently used wedding dresses and accessories at discount pricing and supports a really great cause! We staged a ceremony on the lawn near the lake which included a cute wooden house-shaped arbor rented from For the Love of Pete. I installed a floral installation in two spots on the wooden wedding arbor in the color palette of the shoot. I included blue hydrangea, orange roses, burgundy and brown amaranthus, blue thistle, eucalyptus, burgundy and orange dahlias, and italian ruscus. We also staged a sweetheart table look near the ceremony site, which included large vintage red velvet chairs.
