A Jewel-toned Wedding Styled Shoot at Eola Hills Legacy Estates Vineyard in Salem, Oregon

Happy Autumn, flower lovers! I love everything about the fall, especially the color palettes! Admittedly, this outdoor vineyard wedding styled shoot was shot in the middle of summer, but I think you’ll agree that the warm, jewel toned color palette shouts, “it’s fall, y’all!” or at least suggests that autumn is coming!

This shoot featured the talented work of three different Oregon wedding photographers, Emily Skye Photography, Alisha Hale Photography, and Ashley Masters Photography. To not confuse each of their individual photography styles, I’m going to feature each photographer separately in a series of different blog posts. Today, we’ll exclusively feature Emily Skye Photography, so all the photos on this post are Emily Skye’s work. Stay tuned for subsequent blog posts with incredible images from this jewel-toned vineyard wedding styled shoot by the other photographers, Alisha Hale and Ashley Masters. This styled shoot was also captured by Oregon wedding videographer Shane Wall of Valley Trademark. His video will be featured in a separate blog post to come as well!

We set this styled shoot at the gorgeous vineyard wedding venue and winery tasting site Legacy Estate Vineyard (of Eola Hills Winery) in Salem, Oregon. If you like wine tasting, I encourage you to visit their tasting room which is open 1-6pm daily and features delicious Oregon wine from Eola Hills Winery. The spectacular views of lush, rolling hills and pristine rows of grapevines surrounding the vineyard will take your breath away as you sip delicious wine on their large patio or from the other relaxing spots under oak trees around the vineyard. Its an absolutely gorgeous place for an outdoor wedding! They have a sweet little pond with a deck next to a lush green lawn, and several spots just perfect for a wedding ceremony and reception.

The styled shoot was coordinated and styled by the talented Krystle Clear Events, whom I’ve had the honor and pleasure of working alongside many weddings and styled shoots over the past few years. Her attention to detail, warm and friendly demeanor, and creativity make every event (whether its a real wedding or a styled shoot) run smoothly, stress-free, and sure to be styled beautifully. I definitely recommend reaching out to her if you are planning an Oregon wedding or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest! I’ve said it numerous times, but I can’t stress it enough: wedding coordinators are absolutely worth it! They remove so much stress and pressure from the couple, provide invaluable knowledge and wedding tips, help execute a wedding vision into reality, and can often save you money overall.

We chose the color palette of warm jewel tones to mimic the beautiful sunset colors often witnessed at the vineyard. Our palette included orange, burgundy, blue-ish purple, and teal. We also brought in vintage elements to the styled shoot with the rented decor accents. All the colors of our styled shoot palette are beautifully displayed on our rectangle reception tablescape, which we chose to shoot nestled in an oak tree grove surrounded by rows and rows of grapevines. For the Love of Pete Rental company in Salem, Oregon supplied the gold colored vintage compote urns I used for floral centerpieces down the 6-top reception table. They also supplied the teal tinted glass goblets, gold chargers, and napkins and a chiffon runner, both in rich burgundy. A table number card as well as a nametag was beautifully printed by the talented wedding stationery artist Blue Bonsai Printing, who also created gorgeous wedding invites for the styled shoot.

Desserts were provided by Nothing Bundt Cakes in Clackamas, Oregon. If you’ve never had Nothing Bundt Cake, I seriously suggest you get on that, pronto. They work well for everyday treats as well as wedding cakes, because they come in various sized cakes in delicious flavors and are aesthetically beautiful with their simple icing. We used their mini cakes in colors that matched the styled shoot palette in red velvet and lemon.

Our models, Grace and Taylor, were a real life couple who fit the look perfectly of our shoot and were very fun to work with. Our stunning bride model, Grace happens to be International Ms. Oregon 2020! Her makeup was professionally done by the wedding makeup and hair artist, Morgan Nichols. Taylor wore a burgundy suit from The Black Tux and Grace wore a bridal gown from Adorned in Grace Bridal and Formalwear Shop, a bridal shop that sells new and gently used wedding dresses and accessories at discount pricing and supports a really great cause! The proceeds of every sale at Adorned in Grace go toward the awareness and prevention of sex trafficking as well as crisis prevention and support for sex trafficking survivors.

We staged a ceremony on the lawn near the lake which included a cute wooden house-shaped arbor rented from For the Love of Pete. I installed a floral installation in two spots on the wooden wedding arbor in the color palette of the shoot. I included blue hydrangea, orange roses, burgundy and brown amaranthus, blue thistle, eucalyptus, burgundy and orange dahlias, and italian ruscus. We also staged a sweetheart table look near the ceremony site, which included large vintage red velvet chairs.

Are you engaged and planning a wedding in 2020 or 2021 and looking for your wedding florist? Dates are filling fast, Let’s chat!

A beautiful and intimate outdoor wedding on Sauvie’s Island in Portland, OR

For Stephanie and Robert, like many other engaged couples planning 2020 weddings, their wedding plans changed multiple times this year. Initially they planned a Spring wedding and reception party at Cooper’s Hall, an urban winery, taproom and wedding venue in the heart of SE Portland. As the weeks drew nearer to their date, it became apparent that the Covid-19 pandemic would be effecting travel of their guests and restricting the gathering size of the wedding venue, so they postponed their date to July. As July grew nearer and the restrictions on wedding parties not changing much, the determined couple switched gears and decided on having an intimate outdoor wedding ceremony at a beautiful park setting with close friends this summer, and postponing their larger reception at the winery and taproom for next year.

I was honored to be able to provide gorgeous florals for their scaled down intimate event. Instead of florals for the whole bridal party and any for the ceremony, the couple chose a small elopement package of a bridal bouquet and boutonniere for their intimate wedding. Their wedding palette was peach, coral, blush, ivory, and soft sage green, which looked amazing next to his rich, slate blue groom’s suit, her beautiful ivory bridal gown, and the beautiful natural green background of farmland and forested hills surrounding the park.

For flowers, I used peach colored Juliet garden roses, blush colored Keira garden roses, creamy ivory Vendela roses, coral colored ranunculus, peach colored hypericum berries, wide leaf dusty miller, and silver dollar eucalyptus. The style of the bridal bouquet was romantic and elegant with the soft whimsical greenery and soft delicate petals of the garden roses and ranunculus blooms. Robert wore groom’s boutonniere made with a coral ranunculus bloom, dusty miller leaf, peach hypericum berry and a bit of eucalyptus greenery.

Stephanie and Robert gathered their close friends and had their intimate wedding ceremony at the beautiful Howell Territorial Park, a 120-acre park nestled among farmland on Sauvie’s Island in NW Portland. With the Covid-19 pandemic happening, guests were asked to wear masks and socially distance. Unfortunately their parents weren’t able to travel and attend in person, but they attended virtually on Zoom!

Kabrina Baldwin Bergen did a wonderful job on Stephanie’s bridal makeup. The stunning photography was done by Kate Holt Photography. After the intimate wedding ceremony, they enjoyed delicious food catered from Mediterranean Exploration Company and wine from Vinopolis Wineshop.

I very much look forward to being a part of their second celebration and providing gorgeous flowers for their larger reception taking place in 2021 at Cooper’s Hall!

Wedding on Wheels, take two: an Urban Hipster Elopement shoot in Portland, Oregon

The Wedding on Wheels team is back for another fun elopement styled shoot, this time with an urban, hipster vibe featuring the star of the show, Aspynn~ a dark, forest green teardrop trailer owned by Oregon Teardrop Rentals. She is available to rent for your next northwest camping adventure, and is one of the three teardrop trailer options currently available for your Wedding on Wheels elopement package, where you can get a teardrop trailer, wedding flowers, wedding cake or desserts, and wedding photographer all delivered to your elopement or intimate wedding site!

For a different vibe than the last outdoorsy Wedding on Wheels shoot, we chose an urban setting in industrial SE Portland with a private concrete parking lot cornered by two brick walls. Photography was done by Crystal Genes Photography, a talented wedding photography who also founded the NW Wedding Underground, a website that features an incredible collection of wedding vendors in the Pacific Northwest, through styled shoots and video interviews. View the Flowers by Alana video interview on NW Wedding Underground!

Bridal hair was done by Hair by Eira, and bridal makeup was done by Kerrin Birchenough. The bride model wore a vintage dress borrowed from the cool thrift store Shwop in the Sellwood neighborhood of SE Portland. Shwop isn’t your average thrift store, its a really neat store where you have the option to join a membership and members can exchange (aka “shwop”) out clothing items and accessories for any item in the store (non-members can also shop resale items at great prices! Shwop has a small but unique wedding dress selection and the charming owner, Marci can often tell you amazing stories about the wedding dress’ original owner! Both the bride and groom models wore sneakers also borrowed from Shwop! Luck was on our side that they had almost brand new mint green Converse in the groom’s size, that matched the shoot perfectly!

We partnered with Rogue to feature their canned cocktails that matched the shoot colors of pink and lime green. Rogue is a Portland-based beer brewing company that traditionally brews beer, but are now also crafting really delicious cocktails in cans with unique flavor combinations, like Cucumber Lime Gin Fizz and Cranberry Elderflower Vodka Soda, as well as CBD seltzer!

For this shoot, I designed a classic cluster bouquet in whites, lime greens, blush and bubblegum pink, using cafe au lait dahlias, white dahlias, pink roses, lime green roses, blushing bride protea, white veronica, lime green hydrangea, and seeded eucalyptus. The bouquet was tied with a long lime green ribbon from Joann Fabrics.

I decorated the dessert and drink area (the back of the teardrop trailer) with greenery and floral clusters, and created a floral installation on the brick wall to serve as our wedding altar. If you know me personally, you’ll know that I thrive on personal challenges and creative endeavors. I had never done an installation on a brick wall, but I was up for the challenge and absolutely love how it turned out, although it was super windy during set-up and quite frustrating figuring out the mechanics of the install! (Pro tip: brick clips found at Lowe’s Home Improvement stores are essential hardware for brick wall installations.)

It was so windy, a tree actually fell down in the alley that extended from the corner of our site, almost landing on the trailer! It was almost serendipitous, though because of how well it looked aesthetically with our shoot! We added fun accents to the shoot like a large black and white striped area rug and a white metal bistro table and chairs for the couple to cheers with their yummy canned cocktails and enjoy a donut together next to Aspynn.

A Boho Elopement Styled Shoot at Trillium Lake on Mount Hood in Oregon

Prepare yourself for some serious eye candy with this one, friends!  This boho elopement styled shoot at Trillium Lake on Mount Hood was seriously one of the most stunning events I’ve ever been a part of. Trillium Lake is an hour and a half drive from Portland and one of the many lakes on Mount Hood.  There’s a campground and a day use area, which includes a trail around the lake and a boat launch for non-power boats like canoes and kayaks.  We set up on the west side of the lake which was easy to access by road and had the most stunning backdrop of the mountain.  All around us were rich pine forests that made for lovely photo backdrops as well.  Mount Hood hid behind clouds while we were setting up, but perfectly timed her debut as we were starting the shoot.  Every detail of this shoot was so beautiful: the bride looked absolutely gorgeous, the rental decorations including a hexagon arbor were perfect, the cake was adorable, the mountain and lake, my flowers…. I’m still daydreaming over how pretty it all was!!

The styled shoot was initially envisioned by wedding photographer Rachel Brookstein.  I was so honored to be asked to be a part of it for the flowers!  I recommended she bring Krystle Allen of Krystle Clear Events on as the event coordinator because Krystle is incredible to work with and cohesively ties all the details together that make styled shoots (and of course weddings) run smoothly.  She executed and styled the many details of the shoot with the help of PNW Weddings with Rachael, another wedding planner in the Portland area.  Rachel Brookstein also brought on talented wedding photographer Marcela Pulido as an additional photographer for the shoot.

Our bride and groom models were Llanee and Andrew, a real couple who happen to be engaged and sadly had to postpone their 2020 wedding due to the covid pandemic.  They were happy to be a part of the shoot and were so great to work with.  Llanee’s makeup was done by Megan Blake Beauty and her hair was done by Coreene Collins.

Power of Love Rentals provided the wooden hexagon arch that Krystle Allen and I worked together to assemble (its extra fun when you get to use power tools on site!) Power of Love Rentals also provided gorgeous lanterns, geometric gold terrariums in various shapes and sizes, a beautiful large rug that helped us stage the altar, a wooden dessert table, and a white and gold cake platter.  On the hexagon arbor, I designed a boho style floral installation including dried palm fans, dried pampas grass, Italian ruscus, silver dollar eucalyptus, toffee roses, beige carnations, white scabiosa, hypericum berries, and smoke bush.   Diagonal to the installation on top of the arbor, I also designed an additional arrangement on the ground and added pops of flowers and greenery throughout all the lanterns and terrariums.

Sugarhouse Cake provided a single-tier white wedding cake with gorgeous mountain details on the frosting! The cake sat atop a riser wrapped in gold sheer ribbon and looked beautiful staged on Power of Love Rental’s white and gold cake platter. I designed a floral cake topper with blush garden roses, pale peach hypericum berries, eucalyptus, and white scabiosa flowers.

Trillium Lake Elopement

Llanee carried a boho style bridal bouquet in a dreamy palette of beige, champagne, cream, mauve, and greenery that included a lot of textures.  I combined a large, white, king protea with beige “toffee” roses, blush cabbage roses, cream colored astilbe, peach hypericum berries, white scabiosas, cream colored dried bunny tails, mauve colored smoke bush, eucalyptus, and maidenhair fern. I designed the bouquet to be large and majestic in presence (like a mountain) and synonymous to boho weddings.

Provided by Anna’s Bridal, Llanee wore a Willowby by Watters wedding gown called Thistle, which features a Chiara lace bodice in geometric patterns, an elegant ivory tulle skirt with a bronze lining, a V-neck neckline and delicate spaghetti straps.  Llanee also wore a fresh flower crown I designed with eucalyptus, hypericum berries, ranunculus, and smoke bush. She looked like she walked straight out of a fairy tale!

Besides the Sugarhouse cake, we had an additional dessert featured at our boho elopement styled shoot ~ Sloshy Pops!  These popsicles are handcrafted with real fruit and liquor and made in Portland! They were a delicious and adorable addition to the shoot!  The owner of the company brought the Sloshy Pops cart to Trillium Lake and we all got to try them — they are seriously so good!  I definitely recommend hiring them for your next event, or any of these talented wedding professionals!

A Sunflower Wedding at Cooper Spur Mountain Resort on Mount Hood

sunflower wedding

It’s summer and I’m reflecting with gratitude on all the beautiful summer weddings I’ve designed flowers for in the past 18 years!  Typically, my summers are booked solid with weekend weddings, sometimes multiple weddings each weekend.  This year’s wedding season is different for all of us during the covid-19 pandemic. Between the small intimate weddings and elopements I’m designing flowers for this summer, I’m taking time to enjoy summer with my family and taking advantage of fun summertime activities I usually miss like berry picking and camping!

In reminiscing of previous summer weddings, I’m remembering a classic summer wedding I designed last year on Cooper Spur Mountain Resort on Mount Hood, an hour and a half outside of Portland, Oregon. This beautiful summer wedding featured sunflowers, one of the most iconic of summertime flowers.  Sunflowers symbolize adoration, loyalty, longevity, unconditional love, and remind us of bright, warm sunshine, what a perfect theme for summer and fall weddings! Their bright and cheerful nature will bring joy, happiness, and warmth to your love-filled wedding day!

Cooper Spur Mountain Resort in the Mount Hood National Forest is a charming mountain resort with a rustic lodge, log cabins and condos nestled in the woods, where you and your wedding guests will be surrounded by pine trees, beautiful meadows and epic views of the top of Mount Hood.  Its perfect for a mountain getaway anytime of year, and a wonderful outdoor wedding venue for nature loving couples to tie the knot!  This sunflower wedding at Cooper Spur was photographed by Crystal Genes Photography, a wonderful wedding photographer I’ve had to honor and pleasure to work beside on weddings as well as multiple styled shoot projects for the NW Wedding Underground.  We were recently featured in the Oregonian together for our Wedding on Wheels elopement packages with Oregon Teardrop Rentals!

The bride and bridesmaids of this sunflower mountain resort wedding carried classic, cluster bouquets of sunflowers, babies breath, Solidaster solidago, and Italian ruscus greenery.  Boutonnieres were made with small sunflowers, and Flowers by Alana also designed pale yellow and cream colored silk floral hair pieces and floral crowns for the bride, bridesmaids, and flower girls.

The ceremony was on a grassy lawn outside the lodge, surrounded by forest, and flanked by a beautiful view of the majestic Mount Hood.  Three floral installations with white hydrangea, large sunflowers, yellow roses, Italian ruscus and various types of eucalyptus were designed and installed on a simple wooden arbor structure owned by Cooper Spur Mountain Resort.  Beside the flower girl crowns, the flower girls also carried baskets decorated with sunflowers and yellow solidaster flowers and filled with yellow rose petals.

After the ceremony, the reception took place within a large white reception tent.  Each guest table was decorated beautifully and simply with classic white chairs, white linens, dark brown napkins, and sunflower centerpieces.  Fishbowl vases containing decorative rock and water floated three large sunflower heads for a clean, simple sunflower centerpiece.
