The bohemian wedding style continues to be a popular wedding theme in recent years and seems to be here to stay! Bohemian (or boho) weddings often incorporate whimsical, free-spirited, and romantic elements inspired by nature like fresh and dried florals in warm earth tones, and neutral colored natural fiber art like macramé and woven textiles. I was thrilled to be invited to be a part of a bohemian wedding styled shoot last fall with an incredible team of wedding professionals from the Portland area. I was a traveling hippie in my youth, and the free-spirited and earthy elements of the bohemian wedding aesthetic really speak to my wanderlust soul!

The bohemian wedding styled shoot was photographed by multiple photographers, but this blog post features photos solely by Hannah Fitzgerald of H V Fitz Photos. To see photos of the shoot by Emily Skye Photography, check out our Oregon Bride Magazine online feature! Portland wedding photographer Amy Coles Photography also captured photos of the shoot, and wedding videographer Michaela McIntosh captured the styled shoot, as well, with a gorgeous wedding video!

Our bohemian wedding styled shoot was hosted by The Brent Family Farm, an outdoor wedding and event venue in Oregon City, just a short drive south of Portland, Oregon. The Oregon wedding venue has the country charm of a pastural setting among expansive rolling hills, hay fields, and surrounding forests. A beautiful manicured lawn is strung with glowing warm bistro lights behind a charming white and terra cotta colored farmhouse. It’s perfect for couples who want an out-in-the-country wedding vibe without requiring your guests to travel too far outside the city. The lovely country setting of the Brent Family Farm almost feels as if you’re in Tuscany!

Krystle Clear Events, an exceptionally talented, Portland wedding and event planner successfully brought together the overall boho vibe of our bohemian wedding styled shoot into a cohesive look with carefully chosen décor rentals from Power of Love Rentals and Events Etc Northwest. Décor elements such as macramé, dream catchers, lace, woven throws and throw pillows, rustic wooden tables and chairs, and vintage amber drinkware helped give the bohemian wedding styled shoot its overall boho aesthetic.

For this bohemian wedding shoot, we chose the warm, earthy palette of terra cotta and sage, with accents of beige, white, and blush. Portland wedding florist Flowers by Alana designed the florals for the shoot with locally grown blush Café au Lait dahlias, white scabiosa, white hydrangea, Coffee Break roses, white roses, beige spray roses, white stock, willow eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, olive branches, bleached white ferns, and pampas grass. Flowers by Alana designed a boho bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere, an altar installation, reception flowers including a tall, lifted floral centerpiece, cake flowers, a bridal hair piece, and florals and greenery installed on and around a wicker peacock chair.

The bohemian wedding ceremony was staged in a hay field on the Brent Family Farm property, with the warm setting sunlight peaking through the evergreen trees in the background. The wedding altar was a wooden square arbor with a macramé hanging and a large floral altar installation made of eucalyptus, olive branches, white hydrangea, terra cotta colored Coffee Break roses, beige colored spray roses, and pampas grass. On both sides of the wedding aisle were rows of rustic wooden benches draped with woven throws and lanterns which all gave a cozy and relaxed feel to the bohemian wedding ceremony site.

The reception look was set up on the backyard lawn of the farmhouse. Rctangular and round wooden guest tables were set up and decorated with macramé runners, and a variety of gold and brass vessels for florals and candles. Most tables had simple loose greenery and a single tall pampas grass in a gold vessel, but one rectangle table held a large, lifted floral centerpiece supported by gold Harlow stands. On the table beneath the lifted centerpiece was a macramé runner and a loose floral garland made of magnolia leaves and pampas grass. Wedding stationery, including invitations, table numbers and individual place cards on each plate were designed by the talented wedding paper artist and stationer Blue Bonsai Printing.

On one corner of the reception area in the backyard was a wooden triangle tepee-like structure that was adorned with hanging crystals and twinkly lights. Beneath the triangle structure was a rug and cozy throw pillows, and hung from the top of the structure was an incredible upside-down real wedding cake! Leslie Foster of The Cake Room Studio brilliantly designed the most amazing boho wedding cake for the bohemian wedding shoot, using edible lace that had dream catchers within the lace detail, a small delicate dream catcher with real feathers hung from the bottom of the cake. This bohemian wedding cake was entered and won first place in the international cake contest Cake Champions!

Our cake wasn’t the only contest winner of the styled shoot. Our lovely bride model Amy Honeybee was crowned Ms. Washington in the 2020 and 2021 United States Beauty Pageants! For the bohemian wedding shoot, Amy wore a lacy open-backed bridal gown by Ania Bridal and dangly tassel earrings that complimented the boho bridal look. Her hair and makeup was done by talented wedding makeup artist Morgan Nichols, who added delicate hair rings to Amy’s wavy hair that gave almost a hint of dreadlocks. Amy also wore a floral hair piece designed by Flowers by Alana to add to the free-spirited boho vibes.
