The bright summer sunshine was perfectly on theme for Liya and Reid’s modern tropical wedding last summer at the Ironlight venue in Lake Oswego, just south of Portland, Oregon. The wedding was planned and coordinated by Your Perfect Bridesmaid and captured by talented Portland wedding photographer Lauren Miles Photography.
Surrounded by their friends and family, Liya and Reid were married on the Ironlight outdoor patio for their ceremony, which preceded a beautiful indoor reception just inside the open doors. Their overall theme was modern minimalism accented with both tropical and Pacific Northwest vibes that combined the couple’s love for both Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest. Their color palette for their modern tropical wedding was bold green, white, hot pink, orange, and gold.
Ironlight is a modern industrial wedding venue in Lake Oswego, just a short drive south from downtown Portland. It’s sleek, large glass windows and wide-open doors provide both gorgeous natural light and stunning views of Mount Hood and the beautiful natural Oregon landscape, with the picturesque views continuing from the outdoor patio area of the venue as well. The concrete patio surrounded by iron railings and stunning greenery and mountain views make the Ironlight an ideal choice for engaged couples looking for a modern industrial wedding venue that also features the beautiful pacific northwest scenery.
Portland wedding florist Flowers by Alana designed Liya and Reid’s modern tropical wedding flowers with tropical flowers and tropical greenery, but also incorporated roses to symbolize the couple’s love of Portland, and ferns to further draw in the Pacific Northwest vibe. The florals included Phalaenopsis orchids, Cymbidium orchids, pin cushion protea, bridal veil protea, hot pink roses, orange spray roses, soft pink anthurium, monstera leaves, palm leaves, umbrella ferns, and Italian ruscus vines.
Liya wore a princess bridal gown in white with spaghetti straps, lace, pearl embellishments, and layers of soft chiffon. Her hair and makeup were done beautifully in a natural and organic style by Portland bridal beauty artist Blossom and Beauty. For Liya’s bridal bouquet, Flowers by Alana designed a whimsical and modern, tropical wedding bouquet of orchids, roses and spray roses, anthurium, bridal veil protea, Italian ruscus, and ferns.
Liya’s bridesmaids wore floor length dark green gowns (each a slightly different style) and carried modern tropical bridesmaid bouquets of anthurium, monstera leaf, and orange and hot pink roses. Reid’s groomsmen wore short sleeved button down Hawaiian shirts with tropical leaf patterns, and Reid wore a light teal suit over a teal and white Hawaiian shirt. All the men wore orchid boutonnieres designed by Flowers by Alana.
The ceremony was held outside on Ironlight’s patio, enhanced by a perfectly clear view of Mount Hood. Flowers by Alana designed large modern tropical floral arrangements set atop gold Harlow stands at the ceremony altar, and large matching ground florals at the head of the aisle. The large tropical floral arrangements from the ceremony were repurposed after the ceremony on the ground in front of both the sweetheart table and the cake table.
For the reception, the guest tables were donned with white table clothes, hunter green chiffon runners, and were divided into two different floral centerpiece looks. Half of the tables had a collection of bud vases with modern minimalist and tropical style florals: each bud vase containing a single monstera leaf, 2-3 stems of soft pink anthurium, a few simple stems of bright pink or orange roses, or a single orchid bloom with a sprig of delicate fern. The other half of the reception tables had modern tropical wedding centerpieces made in gold geometric terrariums. Each table had a custom table number designed with a photo and name of a dog that was important in Liya and Reid’s life (how cute is that?!) The reception was also decorated throughout with gold mercury and geometric candle holders and candles.
Besides the unique table numbers, other sentimental details were woven throughout the wedding design that incorporated the couple’s personal story. Drawing on Liya’s Russian heritage, hand-painted, wooden Russian dolls decorated both the guest book signing table and the cake table. Personalized drink koozies engraved with the couple’s names and adorable drawings of their pups were available for guests to use during the warm day to keep their refreshments cold, and to take home as unique custom wedding gifts.
Liya and Reid’s wedding was catered by Devil’s Food Catering. Their rentals were from Arden Event Co and from Ironlight. Their invitations and other paper designs were from Minted. Their event dj was Zacch from Paradox DJs. Portland wedding cake baker Dream Cakes provided a gorgeous, three-tiered wedding cake painted with gold trim that Flowers by Alana adorned with tropical flowers and greenery.
